COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to provide students with the basic elements necessary to coach and officiate the sport of volleyball. Development of fundamentals, team offense and defense, and teaching strategies will all be addressed. In addition, the mental aspects of coaching and competing will also be studied.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: The student will:

1. understand the basic skills of volleyball,

2. teach basic volleyball skills,

3. understand the basic strategies and tactics of volleyball,

4. develop an understanding of offensive and defensive systems of play,

5. develop a sound plan for program development, promotion and administration,

6. learn from other coaches by observing and evaluating practices and matches,

7. formulate a philosophy of coaching,

8. understand the basic rules and concepts of volleyball officiating and keeping statistics.
