Meet Recap
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (1/9/10)-- No.9-ranked Concordia went 3-2 at the prestigious NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Tournament in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and finished in sixth place out of a total of 16 teams.

The Cobbers beat #16 Cornell and #20 Johnson & Wales on Saturday but fell to No.3-ranked Coe in the quarterfinals. CC then beat #11 St. John's in the first match on Sunday before losing to No.1-ranked UW-La Crosse 26-17 in the fifth-place match. Concordia is now 11-4 in dual meets this season. The 11 dual-meet wins ties the program record for wins in a season with the 1984-85 team.

Concordia started the meet by beating Cornell 24-10 in the opening round of the meet on Saturday. CC won seven of the 10 matches and had three major decisions in the match. The Cobbers then fell to the third-ranked Kohawks 33-6. Ben Anderson and Ross Dankers claimed the only wins in the match for CC. Concordia finished out Saturday by cruising past Johnson & Wales 30-13. The Cobbers had two pins and two major decisions in the final match of the day.

The Cobbers then opened up Sunday by posting a solid 22-13 win over the Johnnies. CC won six of the 10 individual matches and picked up victories in the final three matches to come away with the win. Against the top-ranked Eagles, Concordia was able to claim four match wins but fell just short and lost 26-17.

Anderson led all Cobber wrestlers as he posted a perfect 5-0 record at 141. Anderson, who entered the meet ranked fourth in the nation, scored five decisions in the meet. He posted one of the team's two victories against Coe. His biggest win came in the opening round when he posted a 3-1 decision over No.7-ranked Kevin Donahue of Cornell. Anderson is now 22-3 on the year and leads the team in victories.

Cobber freshman Nate Schmitz was close behind Anderson as he went 4-0 at the meet but didn't wrestle against Coe. Like Anderson, Schmitz recorded all decision wins and his biggest victory of the two-day meet came against conference rival St. John's in the consolation semifinals. Schmitz came away with a 6-0 decision which sealed the victory for Concordia. The four wins pushes Schmitz' season total to 20 and he becomes the third CC wrestler with 20 victories on the year.

All-American junior Phil Moenkedick entered the meet ranked fourth at 184 and went 2-1 but did not wrestle on Sunday. Moenkedick's lone loss came against Tyler Burkle of Coe who is currently the No.1 ranked wrestler at 184. Moenkedick lost a close 3-1 decision to Burkle.
