Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/24/07)-- Concordia was held scoreless for final two periods of play and lost 3-1 to St. John's in the 2006-07 season finale for both teams on Saturday in Moorhead.

The loss by the Cobbers gives the two teams a series split. CC finishes the year with a 7-18-0 overall record and a 3-13-0 mark inside the MIAC. SJU ends their campaign with a 9-14-2 overall mark and a 6-9-1 record in league play.

The game started slowly for Concordia as they allowed a goal in the first minute of play. St. John's forward Joel Stacklie was allowed to skate behind the net and his wraparound attempt found the back of the net before Cobber goalie Jeremy Boniface was able to get to the side of the net where Stacklie wrapped the puck into.

The Cobbers tied the game at the 8:38 mark when Carl Babich was left alone in the slot and snapped a shot into the upper right corner of the net off of a pass from Knut Bitustoeyl. Blaine Gamst was also credited with an assist on the play. For Babich, it was his second goal of the season.

The tie game lasted less than two minutes when SJU was able to net the eventual game winner at 10:55. Ian Rose notched his seventh goal of the year to give the Johnnies a lead they would never relinquish.

St. John's controlled most of the opening period and held a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal in the opening 20   minutes.

After the teams went into the first break with the score still at 2-1, St. John's scored the only goal of the final two periods when Gabriel Harren found his way between the CC defense and lifted a shot over Boniface's left shoulder.

Even though Concordia outshot St. John's 18-15 in the final two periods, they were unable to get a shot past SJU goalie Vince Wheeler and lost in their final season game.

Boniface finished the game with 28 saves and Wheeler made 21 stops to earn his seventh win of the year.

For the game, CC was outshot 31-22. The Johnnies scored once in their six power play attempts. The Concordia power play unit was one of the stories of the game as they were unable to generate any sustained attacks on the SJU net and were held scoreless in their seven attempts.
