MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/23/10)-- Darrin Olmscheid had a season-high 29 points but it wasn't enough for Concordia to overcome Gustavus and the Cobbers lost 79-72 in Moorhead on Saturday. The Cobbers made several runs at the Gusties in the second half but were never able to get to within four points and lost for the fifth straight time.

Gustavus (12-5/10-2 MIAC) earned the win in the first part of the opening half. The Gusties made 12 of their first 15 shots (80.0%) from the floor and canned their first three 3-point field goals as they bolted to a 12-point lead midway through the first half. The Cobbers eventually slowed down Gustavus on the offensive end and whittled the lead down to two points on four different occasions in the first half but were never able to get all the way back and trailed 40-35 at the break.

The second half was more of the same for Concordia. The Cobbers allowed Gustavus to make an early-half run and then hold on for the remainder of the period. GAC outscored CC 9-3 in the first three minutes of the second half to take an 11-point point lead at 49-38. Concordia would cut the lead to five only to have Gustavus stretch it back to double figures. That scenario would be replayed three more times during the final 20 minutes. The Cobbers got as close as four points with 8:54 to go but then the Gusties went on a 9-2 streak to regain an 11-point lead and CC was never able to get to within six points for the rest of the game.

Olmscheid finished with 29 points - the second highest point production of his career. He had 30 points against the Gusties last year at home. Senior James Baldwin had the game of his season as he went off for 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to record his first double-double of the year. Karl Olson was the only other Cobber player with more than four points in the game. He went 3-for-5 from behind the arc and finished with 18 points. The trio of Olmscheid, Baldwin and Olson accounted for 58 of the team's 72 points (80.5%).

The Gusties were led by Jesse Van Sickle who finished with 21 points and was 4-for-6 from long range. Dan Schmidtknecht had the most all-around game of the day. He had 11 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds and a game-high six assists.

Concordia will look to end their losing skid when they play at Carleton on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7:45 p.m.
