Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (1/21/09)-- Concordia found out why St. Thomas is ranked No.2 in the latest D3hoops.com national poll and undefeated in the 2008-09 season. The Tommies had eight players score at least five points and won 83-61 in Moorhead on Wednesday. The loss is the third straight for the Cobbers who fall to 6-10 overall and 3-8 in the MIAC. UST remains perfect on the year and move to 16-0 in all games and 11-0 in league play. The Tommies are now the only undefeated team in Division III as No.1-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) lost to Carthage (Wis.) on Wednesday.

The two teams battled back-and-forth for the first 11 minutes of the first half before St. Thomas went on a patented run to open up a nine-point lead. The Tommies outscored CC 11-1 over a span of three minutes to turn a one-point Concordia lead into a nine-point UST advantage. St. Thomas would back that up with a 17-7 run and they would push their lead to 19 points with 2:08 left to go in the first half. The combined 28-8 run would spell doom for the Cobbers.

Concordia was never able to get to within 10 points in the second half and the Tommies finished off the game by holding their largest lead at 22 points as the final buzzer sounded.

The Cobbers shot 43.2% (19-for-44) from the floor and 30.0% (3-for-10) from the 3-point line. Concordia was 20-for-29 (69.0%) from the foul line. Both free throw totals are a season high for CC. John Fraase once again was the top Concordia scorer. He finished with a game-high 17 points. Unfortunately his streak of eight straight double-doubles came to an end as he finished with only seven rebounds in the game.

St. Thomas shot a methodical 61.4% (35-for-57) from the floor and 33.3% (5-for-15) from behind the arc. Alex McCoy went 6-for-7 from the field and finished with a team-high 14 points. The Tommies made their hay around the basket as they outscored Concordia 52-22 in points in the paint.

Concordia will host Gustavus on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. before embarking on a five-game road trip.
