Gameday Game Recap:

GAME STORY

ST. PAUL, Minn. (1/07/08)--After scoring more than 70 points only once in their first eight games of the season and being held to a scant 47 points in the final game of 2007, Concordia has made scoring more points their New Year's resolution and it is paying off as they scored a Wayne Gretzky-like 99 points en route to a 99-76 win over league-leading Hamline on Monday. It is the second straight game that the Cobbers have scored 90-plus points and the second consecutive game they have posted a win over a team that was tied for the kead in the league standings.

CC has now won three straight conference games for the first time since the middle of the 2004-05 season. Concordia is now 3-2 in the MIAC and 4-6 overall. Hamline falls from their perch atop the conference standings. They are now 4-2 in league play and 6-5 overall.

It was all Concordia on Monday as they led wire to wire. The Cobbers built an 8-2 lead in the first four minutes of play and never looked back. Behind a 67.8% (40-for-59) shooting percentage in the game, CC built a 21-point lead at 38-17 with 4:22 to go in the first period and never allowed the Pipers to close within 12 points for the rest of the game.

In the second half, Concordia continually found open shots around the basket and took advantage of a Piper defense that was intent on trying to force a Cobber turnover. For the game, CC turned the ball over 18 times but held HU to only 16 points off of the miscues.

INDIVIDUAL STAT RECAP

Luke Linz had another career night from the floor. He followed up his career-high 30-point performance against Macalester on Saturday with an even better 31-point outing against the Pipers. Linz went 15-for-20 (75.0%) from the floor and has now scored 61 points in his last two games and shot a remarkable 71.0% (27-for-38). On Monday he also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds - missing a double-double by a single board. Darrin Olmscheid was one of two other CC players in double figures. Olmscheid broke out of a mini-slump by scoring a career-high 18 points on a 7-for-9 shooting night. He also added a game-high five assists. Erik Lien continued his trend of double-digit games. He had 12 points and collected four assists.

Hamline had four players in double figures. Nick Carroll came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points. MIAC Player of the Week Eric Clute was held to 12 points on the night. He entered the game third the MIAC in scoring with a 19.9 points per game average. Tony Thrasher finished with 13 points and Carl Hipp had 12 to round out the quartet of players in double figures.

The Cobbers also held a significant 37-26 edge in rebounds. CC had 18 turnovers and came away with eight steals on the night.
