5/25 Alicia Tull Competes at Nationals.

Senior Alicia Tull (Roundup, Mont.) competed in the Discus Throw at the NCAA Division III National Meet. She threw a distance of 114'4" in the preliminary round and did not qualify for the finals.

Qualified for the NCAA Division III national meet in the Discus. It will be her first appearance at the national meet.

Qualified for the NCAA Division III national meet in the 800 Meters and the 1500 Meters. It is the third time she has qualified for the outdoor national meet.

Concordia qualified two athletes for the NCAA Division III national meet to be hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, Ill on May 24-26. Heidi Brenden (Sr., Minot, N.D.) qualified in both the 800 Meters and the 1500 Meter, while Alicia Tull (Sr., Roundup, Mont.) qualified in the Discus.

Brenden ran an automatic qualifying time of 2:12.30 in the 800 Meters at the Kansas Relays and ran a provisional qualifying time of 4:39.12 in the 1500 Meters at the MIAC championship meet. Both times place her in the top 20 of the nation and earn her a spot in the national meet. her time in the 800 is the seventh fastest time in the nation. It is the third time in her four years that she has qualified for the national outdoor meet. Unfortunately Brenden will not be attending the meet as she will be participating in her brother's wedding on the same weekend. 

Tull will be participating in her first national meet. She qualified with a throw of 144'2" at the Augustana meet on April 7th. Her toss is the 15th best in the nation. The finals in the discus will be held on Friday at 3:00 pm. 

Several other Cobber athletes narrowly missed earning spots at the national meet. They all had provisionally qualifying performances but did not finish in the top 24 of the nation to earn a national meet spot. They included: Katie Martin (So., Bozeman, Mont.) in the 5000 Meters with a time of 17:52.60 and the 10000 Meters with a time of 37:56.77; Sara Grineski (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) in the 400M Hurdles with a mark of 64.54; Kelli Tranby (Jr. Moorhead, Minn.)  in the Long Jump with a leap of  18' 1-3/4"; Mariah Mougey (So., Enderlin, N.D.) in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 147'4" and the Discus with a mark of 138'0"; Becky Lacher (Jr., Princeton, MN) in the Hammer Throw with a mark of 149'4" and Margaret Cropp (Sr., Verona, N.D.) in the Javelin with a toss of 128'5" and the Heptathlon with a total score of 4104.

Katie Martin (So., Bozeman, Mont.)(#8) competes in the 5000M at the 2001 MIAC Track and Field Championships. She finished third, and earned all-conference honors in both the 5000M and the 10000M. She also provisionlly qualified for the national meet in both events.

Concordia ran their streak of "top three" team finishes in MIAC Championship Meets to five, as they finished second at the 2001 MIAC Outdoor Championship Meet. St. Thomas edged the Cobbers by a mere 16 points to claim the team title. The 167.5 points put up by Concordia is the most points in a championship meet since they won the title in 1999 with a total of 171 points.

Heidi Brenden (Sr., Minot, N.D.) continued to finish her career in style as she captured both the 800M and the 1500 titles. Both her times were national provisionally qualifying times. In the 800M she ran a 2:13.38 and in the 1500M she posted a time of 4:49.80. She finishes her career as a six-time MIAC champion.

Other All-MIAC performances for Concordia included Kelli Tranby (Jr. Moorhead, Minn.) who won the Long Jump with a leap of 18'1-3/4" which provisionally qualifies her for the national meet. The event marked only the second time Tranby has competed in the event at an MIAC championship meet. Heather Brenden (Sr., Minot, N.D.) won the first-ever women's 3000M Steeplechase in a time of 11:24.25. She also finished second in the 3000M run with a time of 10:40.79. Katie Martin (So., Bozeman, Mont.) finished third, and provisionally qualified for nationals, in both the the 5000M and 10000M. She ran a 17:59.38 in the 3000 and a 37:56.77 in the 10000. Sara Grineski (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.), fighting off a season-long leg injury was the runner-up in the 400M Hurdles with a provisional qualifying time of 64.54.

Concordia fared well in the throwing events as well, as they posted a 1-2-3 finish in the Javelin and "top three" finishes in the Discus and Hammer Throw. Margaret Cropp (Sr., Verona, N.D.) won her second MIAC Javelin title with a toss of 128'5". Alicia Tull (Sr., Roundup, Mont.) finished second with a mark of 119'5", and teammate Angie Strom (Sr., Brandon, Minn.) rounded out the Cobber sweep with a throw of 113'10". Cropp's winning mark provisionally qualifies her for the national meet. Mariah Mougey (So., Enderlin, N.D.) posted a double all-conference performance by finishing second in the Discus with a mark of 134'5" and third in the Hammer Throw with a toss of 144'4".

Bears down at the MIAC Championships. She finished 4th in the 3000 and 6th in the 5000. 

For the second consecutive year Concordia finished second at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. The Distance Medley Relay team of  Heather Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND), Whitney Ostrem (Sr., Roseville, MN), Kendra Lee (So., Jamestown, ND) and Heidi Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND) set a new MIAC Meet record and won the event by over 25 seconds to lead the Cobbers to a strong runner-up finish. The Cobbers amassed 120 points, and edged out Gustavus by six points for the second spot. Concordia has now finished first or second for four consecutive years. 

The victory in the Distance Medley Relay was the only event win for Concordia who amassed their points by their strong showings in every event. The middle distance and distance events coninued to help the Cobbers as they had a "top six" finish from the 200 meters all the way up throught the 5000 meters. Besides participating in the MIAC winning relay team, Whitney Ostrem finished fifth in the 200 and second in the 400. 

Other top finishers for Concordia were Sara Grineski (Sr., Moorhead, MN) who finished second in the 55 Meter Hurdles with a of 8.52 which provisionally qualifies her for nationals. Heidi Brendan provisionally qualified for nationals in the 1500 with a time of 4:43.24 which was good for third place, while sister Heather finished fourth in the event. Mariah Mougey (So., Enderlin, ND) and Becky Lacher (Jr., Princeton, MN) finished second and third in the Weight Throw, and Angie Strom (Sr., Brandon, MN) finished third in the High Jump.

7/17 Kris Kuehl Qualifies for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Qualified for Olympic Games in the discus.

Kris Kuehl, who was a 1992 graduate from Concordia, will compete at the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia in September. Kuehl finished third in the finals with a throw of 202' 07" giving her the final qualifying spot for the Olympic Games. She finally makes the Olympic squad after failing to qualify for the 1996 Olympic games. Kuehl was a three-time NCAA National Champion in the discus while at Concordia. She also holds the school record  at 180' 6"and the MIAC record with a throw of 177' 9".

7/16 Kris Kuehl Advances to the Finals in Qualifying for the Olympics.
Kris Kuehl successfully qualified for the finals in the discus with a preliminary heat toss of 200' 07". The throw placed her second behind Suzy Powell who broke the Olympic qualifying meet record with a throw of 203' 01". The finals will take place on Monday July 17th @ 8:40 p.m.. 

7/16-17 Former Concordia All-American track star Kris Kuehl to compete for a spot in the 2000 Olympic games.
Kris Kuehl will compete at the USA Track and Field Olympic trials on July 16th & 17th. She will attempt to qualify for this years Olympic games, held in Sydney, Australia, in the discus. She is the No. 1 qualifier in the nation going into the trials with a distance of 214' 4". The top three to four finishers in the trial make the Olympic team. The qualifying rounds for the discus will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 16th with the finals taking place on Monday July 17 at 8:40 p.m..
