Fall Sports Season Wrap-Up

Another MIAC Women's Golf title, a best-ever Men's Soccer team, and a 6-4 record for the Football team in coach Jim Christopherson's 25th season highlighted our fall '93 calender.

Football Ends 6-3 in MIAC, 3rd Place

The Cobber football team lost 21-0 in their home-opening Crystal Bowl game with Moorhead State and then won 5 of their first 6 MIAC games to put themselves in title contention. A 58-34 upset loss to the Oles in week No. 8 and a well played 44-21 loss to St. John's in the Fargodome season finale left the Cobs at 3rd in the MIAC for the second straight year.

Coach Christopherson recorded his 20th winning season and now has a career record of 176-71-6, 6th best among active NCAA Division III coaches.

All-MIAC First Team Football: Mike Jousma, Bigfork, MT Sr. Halfback 1993 Team MVP, two-time all MIAC, team captain, rushed for 1,125 yards in each of the past two seasons, 2,393 career rushing yards.

Randy Flint, Dilworth, Sr. Receiver Led team in receiving with 35 catches for 611 yards and 7 TDs.

Harold Hegg, Hopkins, Sr. Linebacker Led team in interceptions with 6 and second in tackles with 73.

Brian Smith, Missoula, MT, Sr. Guard Helped Cobs lead league in rushing. Also Academic All-MIAC with 3.30 GPA in Political Science.

Mike Ellefson, Ellsworth, WI Sr. Guard Team Captain and one of leagues' top offensive linemen.

All-MIAC Second Team Football: Mark Schoeb, Deer River, Sr. Fullback Second in team rushing with 601 yards, led team in scoring with 12 TDs, 9th in league rushing yardage.

Dean Haugo, Waubun, Jr. Flanker Team's No. 2 Receiver with 346 yards and 4th in MIAC kick returns. Elected co-captain for 1994 team.

Tim Langemo, Litchfield, Jr. Safety Led team in tackles with 74, had 2 interceptions. A team captain in '94.

Golf: Women Win 3rd Straight Title, Men Place 5th Behind Charlie Ehlers

The Cobber women's Golf team won their third consecutive MIAC title under 14-year head coach Duane Siverson. The Cobbers, who won 5 of the 7 tournaments they entered this fall, will compete this spring for the Coaches National Division III Title. They finished 3rd at Nationals last year.

All-MIAC Cobber Women Golfers: Lisa Hanson, Fosston, Sr. Hanson, a two-time All-American, won her second consecutive MIAC Medalist title at Wapicada CC in St. Cloud. She also won the Concordia Invitational and finished 2nd at two other Tournaments. Hanson was also named Academic All-MIAC for a second time on the strength of her 3.48 GPA in Health Care Administration.

Julie Jamison, Moorhead, Sr. Julie finished 2nd at the MIAC to earn her 4th consecutive All-MIAC award. Jamison posted 5 top-five finishes in fall tournaments and was also named Academic All-MIAC for a second time. She has a 3.69 GPA in Math and Business.

Kari Walrath, Watertown, SD, So. Walrath finished 3rd at the MIAC Championship to earn her second All-MIAC award. She was 5th in the MIAC as a freshman. Kari finished in the top 4 in 6 events this fall, and won medalist honors at the prestigious Small College National Invite.

Ann Lanning, Moorhead, So. Ann finished 9th at the MIAC Meet.

Sara Penfield, Staples, Fr. Sara was 10th at the MIAC and had 4 other top-10 finishes.

All-MIAC Men's Golf: Charlie Ehlers, Worthington, Jr. Ehlers earned his 2nd all-MIAC award, finishing 10th at the MIAC Meet.

Soccer: Men go 10-4-3, 3rd in MIAC, Women Post 11-7 record.

The still-young Cobber men's soccer team had their best season ever under second year coach Jim Cella, breaking school records for wins (10), MIAC finish (3rd), goals (40), shutouts (6) and fewest losses (4).

All-MIAC Men's Soccer Players: Andy Stotts, Edina, Sr. Forward Andy was the team leader and captain, scoring 4 goals and 6 assists. He was also named Academic All-MIAC with his 3.55 GPA in Communications/English.

Mike Hashbarger, Fargo, Fr. Forward Mike broke school season records for goals (11) and points (33).

Brian Mahan, Fargo, So. Forward Brian was honorable mention All-MIAC this year after an All-MIAC freshman year in '92. He was second in team scoring with 20 points.

The Cobber women's soccer team had a fine 11-7 season under 7th year coach Dean Hashbarger. The Cobbers were 5-5 in the MIAC, finishing 5th.

All-MIAC Women's Soccer Players: Nancy Umland, Brooklyn Park, Sr. Nancy scored a school record 48 points with 19 goals and 10 assists. She was also named Academic All-MIAC with her 3.73 GPA in Elementary Ed.

Lydia Kabaka, St. Cloud, Sr. Lydia earned her 3rd All-MIAC award in soccer, finishing the year with 11 goals and 9 assists.

Angie Tohm, Blaine, Fr. Angie, one of the league's top freshmen, was honorable mention All- MIAC and 2nd in team scoring with 9-goals and 14 assists

Krysta Morgenthaler, Minneapolis, So. Krysta was honorable mention All-MIAC and 4th in team scoring with 4 goals and 6 assists.

Cobber Volleyball on the Rise

Under new head coach Tim Mosser, the Cobber volleyball team went 7-4 in their MIAC regular season. Despite a disappointing MIAC tournament, the team came though the year with a lot of well-founded hope for the future.

All-MIAC Volleyball Players: Jodi Horner, Detroit Lakes, Sr. Jodi, voted a first team hitter by the league's coaches, led the team in digs and was second in kills.

Jodi Tulibaski, Pennock, So. Tulibaski, named second team all-MIAC, led the team in kills.

Cross Country: Pipho Leads Men's Team, Heinen leads Women

Senior David Pipho, from Moorhead, led the men's Cross County team all season, posting a personal best 27:36 as the Cobbers finished 16th at the Central Regional in Waverly. Earlier the Cobbers finished 9th at the MIAC.

Taria Heinen, a senior from St. Cloud, paced the Cobber women runners as they finished 8th at the MIAC and 15th at the Central Regional.
