Finished 8th in the 1650 yard freestyle, the highest Cobber individual finish at the MIAC Championship Meet.

Concordia placed four different swimmers in the top 15 in separate events in the final session of competition, and placed eighth at the 2002 MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

First year swimmer Kirsten Borchardt (Fr., Hutchinson, Kans.) finished eighth in the 1650 yard freestyle to capture the highest individual place by a Cobber swimmer at the meet. Her time of 18:48.24 is a collegiate best for Borchardt in the event. Borchardt also finished 13th in the 500 yard freestyle.

The three other top 15 swimmers for Concordia were Sarah Logan (Fr., Missoula, Mont.) who finished 12th in the 200 yard backstroke, Jenny Berg (So., Plymouth, Minn.) who finished 15th in the same event and Megan Johnson (Fr., South St. Paul, Minn.) who placed 12th in the 200 yard butterfly. Johnson also finished 12th in the 100 yard butterfly earlier in the event. It was also Berg's second top 15 finish, as she placed 14th in the 400 yard individual medley. Logan placed 16th in the 100 yard backstroke.

Concordia's 800 yard freestyle relay finished eighth, in a time of 3:52.21. The top relay for the Cobbers during the meet was the 800 yard freestyle relay team that finished sixth with a time of 8:26.59.

2/22 Cobbers Remain in 8th Place After 2nd Day at MIAC Meet.
Concordia bettered their opening day team point total by seven points to finish with 107 points after two days of the MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships. That team total keeps them locked in eighth place. However, the Cobbers are in a four-way fight for fifth through ninth place. Concordia is 30 points behind St. Thomas, who is in the sixth spot and only 17 points behind Macalester in seventh place. The Cobbers hold a slim seven-point advantage over ninth place St. Catherine.

Individually, Concordia was led Megan Johnson (Fr., South St. Paul, Minn.) who finished 12th in the 100 yard butterfly and Jenny Berg (So., Plymouth, Minn.) who finished 14th in the 400 yard individual medley. The only other Cobber to score points was Sarah Logan (Fr., Missoula, Mont.), who finished 16th in the 100 yard backstroke. The 800 yard freestyle relay team finished sixth with a time of 8:26.59.

The Cobbers will finish up the championship meet tomorrow night, with the finals starting at 6:00pm.

The Cobbers scored points in three events. Both the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 medley relay teams scored over 20 points, and first-year swimmer Kirsten Borchardt (Fr., Hutchinson, Kans.) finished 13th in the 500 yard freestyle.

Jenny Berg (So., Plymouth, Minn.) leads off the 800 free relay in Concordia's dual meet with MSU-Moorhead .

Kirsten Borchardt (Fr., Hutchinson, Kans.) won the two long-distance freestyle events for the second week in a row, this week the 500 and 1650, but the Cobbers couldn't pick up enough points and ended up losing to the Dragons 145-92.

Also winning events for the Cobbers were Megan Johnson (Fr., South St. Paul, Minn.) in the 200 Butterfly with a time of 2:26.10, Emily Arndt (So., Fort Collins, Colo.) in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:39.78, and the 200 Medley Relay consisting of Sarah Logan (Fr., Missoula, Mont.), Arndt, Erika Miles (Sr., Bigfork, Minn.), and Carolyn Beisel (Jr., Warroad, Minn.) with a time of 2:01.16. Johnson's time of 2:26.10 broke a four-year old   school record for first-year swimmers.

The lack of any healthy Cobber divers also contributed to the defeat, as the Dragons picked up 32 free points in the diving events. The Dragons also won more swimming events, with six victories including Betsy Fischer's new pool record of 5:09.96 in the 400 Individual Medley.

Next on the Cobber schedule is a trip to the St. Ben's/St. John's Invitational on January 11-12.
