Concordia wrestled the Moorhead State Dragons last Tuesday for the final time this season. The Dragons came out the winner with a 31-10 victory. Concordia's wrestlers, however, fought hard and made the match an exciting one.

First-year student Greg Delgado fought a tight match against Mike Manger, losing 7-9. Delgado had two solid takedowns in the second period, putting him ahead seven to five. Manger came back and wore Delgado out in the third period after getting a quick escape and a hard-fought takedown.

Dean Nielson, the Cobbers' senior captain, came out of his match a winner owning Justin Whitecalf in the third period. Nielson had three commanding takedowns and won by major decision 12-4.

The Cobbers have shown tremendous improvement facing the Dragons this season with seven matches being wrestled the full seven minutes. There was only one pin against Concordia in the match.

Last Saturday, the Cobbers traveled to Valley City to wrestle in the Valley City State University Annual Tournament. Sophomore Shawn Nicholas placed third in the tournament, finishing 3-1 overall. He lost his first match to Brian Emborg 10-4. Nicholas then defeated Gonzolas from Jamestown Community College 9-2. He won his third- round match, just squeaking by Pollert from J.C. 8-7. In the match for third Nikolas once again faced Emberg. He proved to be the better wrestler by decisively beating Emberg 12-6.

Nielson had a solid tournament, winning his first match 10-2 and his third match 3-1. This puts his senior season record at 16-13 overall. Nielson is the only senior on the team and looks to place well in the MIAC final tournament. This would give him a bid in the NCAA national tournament.

The Cobbers will be traveling to Northfield this Friday to fight the St. Olaf Oles in a dual meet. On Saturday they will wrestle in the Carleton College tournament.

Our Cobber wrestlers beat both of these teams in the MIAC Duels held two weekends ago, so it looks to be a winning weekend.
