Former Concordia Baseball Star Chris Coste to Report to Spring Training With the Philadelphia Phillies.
Former Concordia baseball standout Chris Coste will report to spring training with the Philadelphia Phillies beginning next week. Coste signed a contract with the Phillies in the offseason after spending last season playing in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Coste will be looking to catch on with the major league squad after spending the better part of the past five years playing in the minor leagues.

He has spent the past week helping Concordia head coach Bucky Burgau and the Cobber baseball team as they start the indoor practice season.

Coste was a three-time All-American at Concordia and was also named the league MVP three times. He batted .484 and had a 7-2 record on the mound with a 1.29 ERA in his senior season. Coste, who played third base when not pitching, graduated having tied or broken 15 Cobber career baseball records, including hitting (.442), hits (162), RBI (110), homers (19) and ERA (2.11).

- The Concordia menís basketball team leads the nation in field goal percentage. The Cobbers are currently shooting 53.1% from the floor in games played before January 30. They are first in NCAA Division III in 3-point field goal percentage. Concordia is connecting on 45.7% of their shots from behind the arc.

- The Cobbers are vying to make the MIAC playoffs for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past five years. Concordia is currently in fifth place in the MIAC with four games left to play. The Cobbers could finish as high as third place or as far down as eighth. The top six teams in the MIAC earn postseason playoff spots in the league tournament.

- Concordia senior Soren Nelson (Twin Valley, Minn./Norman County East) needs only 12 points to become the ninth player in the history of Cobber menís basketball to break the 1,000-point barrier for a career. Nelson is averaging 14.4 points per game this season and has recorded 988 points in his 3+ seasons in maroon and gold. Last year as a junior he averaged 14.3 points per game and was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team.

Latest News and Notes:
- The Concordia womenís basketball team has won 11 straight games. That streak is the longest in program history since the 1989-90 Cobber team won 13 in a row on their way to losing in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament. The 11 straight wins is currently the eighth longest streak in NCAA Division III.

- By virtue of their upset win over nationally-ranked Carleton, the Cobber womenís team clinched a spot in the MIAC playoffs. It marks the third straight season that Concordia has earned a trip to the conference tournament. It is also the fourth time in the past five seasons that the Cobbers will be playing in the MIAC playoffs.

- Mandy Pearson (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) continues her quest to earn back-to-back conference MVP honors. She currently leads the MIAC in assists per game (7.27) and is third in the league in scoring (17.3 ppg). She also leads the league in steals (3.40 spg) and is fifth in free throw percentage (81.8%). All those numbers are the same, or better, than the stats she posted last season when she won the MIAC MVP honor. More importantly, she has guided Concordia into second place in the league. If the Cobbers can finish with four wins, they will eclipse last yearís fourth-place finish.
