Bobby Clark (Seeley Lake, Mont.) won the MIAC Decathlon with a national provisional qualifying mark of 6,111 points.

Concordia junior track athlete Bobby Clark (Jr., Seeley Lake, Mont./Seeley-Swan HS) won the MIAC decathlon with a final total of 6,111 points. It is the first time that Clark has ever competed in a full decathlon event. His point total provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Division III National Meet at St. Lawrence University on May 22-24.

That total is also the fifth highest point total in school history, and he becomes the fourth Cobber to win the event at the MIAC  Championships in the past seven years. Last year Joe Schmidgall ('02, Morris, Minn.) won the event with a total score of 6,264 points.  Adam Strainer ('01, East, Helena, Mont.) accomplished the feat as a junior in  2000 with a school record of 6,747 points, and Ryan Williams ('97, St. Cloud, Minn.) won the event as a senior
in 1997.

Clark used a big first-event performance on the second day, running a 15.97 in the 110-meter high hurdles to score 736 points. Yesterday, he ripped off an 11.05 100-meter dash to score 851 points, his top-scoring event of the afternoon. He ran a 51.73 in the 400 meters to tally 753 points. Clark had personal best marks in seven of the ten events. His 100-meter dash time is the second fastest time in school history in the event.

Won the pole vault at the SJU Quad with a personal-best mark of 13-7 3/4.

(COLLEGEVILLE)-- For the second time in three weeks the Concordia men's track team went to St. John's to compete in a meet, and for the second consecutive time finished second. The Cobbers, who ran at Jamestown in the middle of the week, improved their overall team point total from 105 points in the March 29th meet to 132 points.

The meet featured the season-opening 10,000-meter race for ultra-distance competitor Brian Stotts (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS). He finished second in the 10K race at St. John's in a time of 32:43.84. That is the fourth fastest time in MIAC this season and is only 1:21 behind the national provisional time of 31:30.00.

Dennis Kline (So., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) was the only Cobber to win an individual event in the meet. He claimed the pole vault championship with a height of 13-7 3/4. That is a personal best height and places him second in the conference.

Andrew Campbell (Jr., Great Falls, Mont./Great Falls HS) backed up his performance in the middle of the week by throwing even farther at St. John's. He had a personal-best toss of 129-4 to finish second for the second consecutive meet. That mark is the 10th farthest distance in the conference this season.

Kirk Nelson (Sr., Hettinger, N.Dak.Hettinger HS) ran in his first individual race since injuring his leg during the indoor season. A return to form by the middle distance specialist will help the Cobbers jump several spots at the MIAC outdoor meet. Nelson finished fourth in the 800 meters at the SJU meet in a time of 2:02.07.

Like the women, Concordia will split their team up for two events over the weekend. The Cobbers will send the majority of their athletes to the NDSU on April 17, while a select few will compete at the Kansas Relays on April 17-19.
