10/03 Cobbers Look to Continue Upward Trend at MIAC Meet.
MIAC Meet Preview --
The Concordia men's golf team has steadily improved over the course of the past five weeks. The Cobbers are coming off a fifth place finish at the "always tough" Gustavus Twin Cities Classic. They were led by junior Adam Hanson (Barrett, Minn.) who finished second overall. Mike Hagen (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) also placed in the top 25 by finishing 14th. The "H" duo of Hanson and Hagen have guided the Cobbers throughout the season as they have finished 1-2 for the team in all but one meet.

Concordia has also posted positive results at the Bemidji State Invitational where they finished third and the UND Invite where they tied for second. Fighting for the other team spots at the MIAC Championship will be Andrew Beliveau (So., Alexandria, Minn.), Jason Christiansen (Jr., Clinton, Minn.), Carl Hunt (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) and Durand Onell (Jr., Litchfield, Minn.). The Cobbers are hoping their upward trend continues so they can place in the top three at the conference meet, a feat that hasn't been accomplished by a Cobber team since the 1998 meet when they finished second.

Concordia posted their most impressive result of the year by finishing fifth at the 21-team field Twin Cities Classic. Junior Adam Hanson (Barrett, Minn.) finished second with a three-day total of 215 (71-73-71). The Cobbers used a second round team score of 288 to jump into the top five in the tournament, and closed with a 305 to secure fifth place. Their final total score of 916 was 12 strokes behind champion St. John's who finished at 904. The Cobbers were only six strokes out of third place and four shots out of fourth. Mike Hagen (Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) finished 14th with a score of 228. Hanson and Hagen were the only Concordia golfers to place in the top 25.

The Cobbers will carry the momentum of their top five finish into this weekend's MIAC championships at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids, Minn. Besides St. John's the only other conference school to place above Concordia was Gustavus. The Cobbers bested St. Thomas, Augsburg, St. Mary's, Carleton and St. Olaf.
