Concordla basketball season has some exciting moments

The Concordia College basketball team won its final road game of the year over Gustavus 68-62, ending the season with 5-11 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 7-17 overall.

Senior Doug Boese of Anoka, MN led the Cobbers in individual scoring for the 1976 77 season with 443 points for an 18.5 per game average. Boese hit 172 field goals and 99 free throws. He also led the team rebounders with 214.

Boese averaged 18.6 points in MIAC games.

Kris Gulsvig of Moorhead led in assists with 127 and was the second top scorer with 253 points and a 10.5 average.

This year was the final season for Boese and Gulsvig and three other Cobber seniors - Brad 6 Atchison and Dave Bale of Moorhead, and Dwight Jones of Carson, CA.

Although Concordia won only a handful of games during the season, there were some exciting moments for the cagers. The Cobbem surprised the North Dakota State Bison with a 96-87 victory in a game that stirred the entire town. The underdog Cobbers stole the show that night as Coach Sonny Gulsvig mustered all 6 the firepower possible from his smaller forces.

In a game against Gustavus in which Concordia led only twice - 2-0 and 69-67, senior Kris Gulsvig pumped a 25-footer at the buzzer 6 to lift the Cobbers to the 69-67 victory.
 

 Doug Boese earns MIAC, NAIA honors

Doug Boese from Anoka, MN, holds the distinction of being an All-District 13 NAIA selection in both basketball and football. He was the leading scorer and rebounder this season and was named to the All-MIAC basketball team picked by the coaches.

Boese, a Cobber co-captain this year, was also named by the area news media to the Fargo-Moorhead inter-city team and was named to the third team of the 1976-77 All-Lutheran College basketball squad. The All-Lutheran team includes players from 27 colleges and universities around the country.

The senior forward led the Cobbers in individual scoring this season with 443 points for an 18.5 per-game average. He hit 172  field goals and 99 free throws. He also led the team in rebounds with 214 and averaged 18.6 points in MIAC games.

 Boese graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in history and political science and  international relations.

Kris Gulsvig is season standout

 Kris Gulsvig of Moorhead received outstanding distinctions this year, including the honor of an All-District 13 NAIA selection in both  basketball and baseball.

 The senior guard led the Cobbers in assists with 127 and was second in scoring this basketball
season with 253 points and a 10.5 average. The

Cobber co-captain was named to the F-M intercity team and to the third team of the 1976-77  All-Lutheran College Basketball squad.

Shortstop Gulsvig was named to the All- MIAC baseball team picked by the coaches. He led the Cobber batsmen with an average of .411.

Gulsvig graduated this spring with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. He is the son of Cobber basketball coach Sonny Gulsvig.
