Experience gained by women runners

A young and inexperienced women's cross country team showed great promise for com mg years during this season 5 competition, according to coach Paul Frederickson.

"All were in their first year of college competition except Anita Anderson," he said, "and she had mononucleosis all summer and was not as strong as she was last year." She is a senior from Brooklyn Center, Minn

In spite of the team 5 inexperience,  several individuals turned in strong performances Coming from 14th place at the University of North Dakota In vitational, freshman Lynnette Dyrdahi of Kalispell, Mont cutting five seconds from her time, won the North Dakota State School of Science Invita tional. Another freshman that turned in strong performances was Carlene Paulson of Moor head, who finished third in the State School of Science meet and seventh in a triangular with the University of North Dakota and Jamestown College.

Both Dyrdahl and Paulson ran well at the regional meet in Ames, Iowa, Frederickson said. "They placed in the middle which is good for inexperienced runners. That was a tough course, and there were lots of ex perienced runners from all over the Midwest."

The team competed in six meets in addition to the conference and regional events.
