McLeod receives All-America honors

As a perennial dominant force in the heavyweight division, senior Malcolm "Molly" McLeod from Fargo, N.D., had his collegiate wrestling career capped when he was selected for all-America honors by both the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III and the National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics.

The honors were given to McLeod in recognition of his second- and fifth-place finishes at the NCAA Division III and I the NAJA national tournaments, respectively. This year marks the fourth year he has received the NCAA award and the first time he has earned the NAJA honor.

McLeod was not the only Cobber to do well this past season. The 10 wrestlers on the Concordia team combined efforts to take second place, behind Augsburg College Minneapolis, in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, held at the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn., Feb.12

Jeffrey Neil, a 142-pound sophomore from Crookston Minn., earned a share of the Carl Larson Memorial Trophy an award given to outstanding wrestlers in the MIAC meet

Concordia took 15th place in a field of 78 squads participat mg in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional Tournament in Whitewater, Wis., Feb 17-18. McLeod and junior 158-pounder Wade Christen sen from Frazee, Minn. both won in their weight classes and Paul Morlock, a freshman from Moorhead, took second at 190 pounds.

With this, the three qualified for the NCAA Division III na tional meet at Wheaton Ill Feb. 26, in which McLeod took second. Christensen and Morlock both were defeated in early rounds.

Competition in the NAIA tournament was new for the Cobber wrestlers. Concordia was represented in the meet by McLeod and 126-pound fresh man Scott Putz from Rock ford, Minn.

As a team, the Cobbers tallied an 8-6 won-lost dual meet record for the season.
