Jordahl receives Ashe tennis award

Mark Jordahl, a May 1982 Concordia  graduate  from Austin, Minn., was named the recipient  of the  Arthur Ashe Award by the coaches in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (M IAC) each  year.    The award is given to an outstanding MIAC men's tennis player who is active in extracurricular activities and demonstrates scholastic achievement, sportsmanship and concern for others,

Jordahl, in his fourth year on the team, was undefeated in four singles matches this past season despite  injuries.  Along with Wayne Rice, a junior from Willmar, Minn., Jordahl also chalked up a perfect doubles record of 5-0.

"It's too bad Mark was hurt for a good share of the season," said Bob Nick, men's tennis coach.  "He  has  been  our number-one player for the last three years, and it was rough for the team when he was out." Even without Jordahl playing much of the time, the team attained an 11-7 record for a sixthplace finish in the MIAC.

Jordahl was also a four-year player on the Cobber hockey team. The son of David and Eloise  (Halvorson) Jordahl, both 1953 Concordia alumni.

Jordahl graduated cum laude with a degree in English and political science.
