Surreal Crash Breaks Nick Myran's Bid For All-American Honors in the 1500 Meters!
Good things are supposed to happen to good people, unfortunately for Concordia senior track standout Nick Myran (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS), something terrible happened to someone so good. Myran, looking to cap his storied Cobber career with the elusive All-American honors, was part of a four-person crash with 300 meters left in the 1500-meter finals at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet held in Waverly, Iowa and finished in 10th place - two spots out of All-American status.

Myran, starting in the first lane, went out fast so he would not get boxed in by the 12-man field. Myran led the race for the first two laps as the pack settled into a leisurely pace. At the 800-meter mark, another runner took his turn leading the pack as Myran relinquished his lead in order to save his strength for the finishing stretch.

Myran began his move toward All-American honors with 400 meters to go. He moved up on the outside of the pack, but with 300 meters left, Mark Rodriguez from North Central College abruptly jumped to the outside to make a move.  Unfortunately, his path took him directly in to Myran. The two runners collided hard and fell to the track. The two runners immediately behind Myran got tangled up with the fallen runners and went down as well.

Trying to write a Hollywood ending to a cruel twist of fate, Myran was the first runner from the crash to pick himself up and get back in the race. Heavily scraped from the fall and spiked from the trailing runners, he was 25 meters behind the top eight runners. Myran pushed hard in the final 100 meters fell but short by 2.78 seconds and ended up 10th.

In the end, the eight runners that survived the crash went on to claim All-American honors.

Myran finishes his career as the school record holder in the outdoor 1500 meters and as part of the outdoor distance medley relay team that broke the school record this spring. He also appears on the Cobber all-time top 10 lists in 10 other indoor and outdoor events.

Myran Moves One Step Closer to All-American Honors!
Nick Myran (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) moved one step closer to the only award that has eluded him in his outstanding track and field career on Thursday. Myran, running in the first heat of the men's 1500-meter trials at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet held in Waverly, Iowa, ran a 3:56.11 to finish third and qualify for the finals of the event. The 1500-meter finals will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 1:20pm.

Myran's time was the third fastest time of the 16 qualifiers and bettered the stadium record at Wartburg College by over five seconds. His finishing time, however, was four seconds slower than his qualifying time of 3:52.02.

Myran will attempt to earn All-American honors for the first time in his career on Saturday. The top eight finishers in the race on Saturday will earn the prestigious distinction. He narrowly missed the honor last year when he finished ninth, only .90 seconds away from the eighth-place finisher.

The last Concordia men's track and field athlete to earn All-American honors was Joe Schmidgall. Schmidgall finished seventh in the decathlon at the 2002 Division III outdoor meet held at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

Myran Recevies Official Invite to NCAA National Meet!
Concordia senior athlete Nick Myran (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) officially qualified for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Meet to be held to be held at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa on May 26-28 as announced by the NCAA national office on Tuesday.

Myran will be making his second consecutive appearance at the national outdoor meet in the 1500 meters. Last year he finished ninth, one place away from earning All-American honors.

Myran qualified for the 2005 national meet by running a 3:52.02 at the Central Qualifier on May 18. That time set a new school record and places him sixth in the nation heading into the championship meet.

His time in the Central Qualifier was over two seconds faster than his winning time in the 1500 meters at the MIAC Championship Meet held on May 14.

Last year Myran ran a 3:55.38 in the preliminaries at the national meet and then breezed to a 3:54.01 in the finals to finish ninth and only miss All-American status by .90 of a second.

The preliminary heats of the 1500 meters at the 2005 championship meet are scheduled to start at 5:00pm on Thursday, May 26, while the finals are slated for Saturday, May 28 at 1:20pm.
