Concordia All-Region Award Recap

Eckhoff Named to D3hoops.com West Region Second Team!
Keith Eckhoff (Sr., Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) has been named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region Second Team. It is the first time in his career that he has earned All-Region honors. The award comes two weeks after Eckhoff was named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team for the first time in his career.

He becomes the first Concordia player to earn NCAA All-Region honors in the history of the program. Concordia had several players earn NAIA All-District honors before the school switched to the NCAA governing body in the middle 1980's.

Eckhoff finished the season as the team's leading scorer. His 21.2 points per game average was almost 10 points higher than his previous best season high total. He finished third in the MIAC in scoring with a 20.1 points per game average in the team's 20 league games. He was second in free throw percentage (84.1%), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (47.0%) and tied for fifth in assists (3.90 apg).

In overall games, Eckhoff finished third in the nation in 3-point percentage (47.9%) and 24th in scoring average. Eckhoff scored at least 30 points in an unbelievable five games this season, including 31 in the team's conference overtime playoff game at Bethel.

Eckhoff also made a mark on the school's record book. He set a school record in 3-point field goal percentage this season. He also finished the season by scoring 552 points, which places him fifth on the school’s all-time list of most points scored by an individual in a single season. In his first three seasons in maroon and gold, he has totaled 866 points and is on pace to become the 1oth player in men's basketball history at Concordia to join the elite 1,000-point career club.

Eckhoff is one of four players from the MIAC to earn All-Region honors. Gustavus' Doug Espenson and Erik Jackson of Macalester were named to the all-region first team and will now have a chance to be named to the all-american team. Joining Eckhoff on the all-region second team is Lucas Olson-Patterson from Augsburg.

D3hoops.com has sponsored an All-American team for four seasons, selecting all-region teams in the eight different NCAA regions. Players were nominated for these awards by the sports information directors at the various schools. A record 606 players were nominated nationwide.

The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for 10 players in their region. SIDs voted for six frontcourt players and four backcourt players, to insure balance. Regions that have fewer than 40 Division III teams have two teams, while all other regions have three teams.
