Concordia All-Conference Award Recap

Five Cobbers Earn MIAC Postseason Awards; Morgan Bain Named MIAC MVP!
Five Concordia women's soccer players earned MIAC All-Conference honors, and record-breaking forward Morgan Bain (So. Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) was named the MIAC Most Valuable Player. She becomes the first Cobber player in program history to earn conference MVP honors.

Besides Bain, Amy Ravenhorst (So., Hollandale, Minn./Albert Lea HS) and Betsy Olesen (So., Bismarck, N.D.) were also named to the MIAC All-Conference Team. Jill Fancher (So., Burnsville,  Minn.) and Miriam Lombardozzi (So., Billings, Mont.) were named to the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. It is the second consecutive year that Bain was named to the All-Conference Team and first for Ravenhorst and Olesen. Last season, Olesen was named to the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Both Fancher and Lombardozzi earn postseason honors for the first time in their careers.

All five players helped Concordia advance to the MIAC tournament championship game and finish with a 10-1 conference record. The Cobbers won their first-ever playoff game in 2004 and were at one time ranked in the top 10 of the region. The team set school records for most overall games won, most conference games won and highest conference finish.

Bain caps a storybook season in the MIAC by being named the league MVP. She broke the conference record for goals in a season and points in a season. Both records were over 10-years-old and both seemed completely untouchable. For the season, she totaled 17 goals and three assists for 37 points in 11 conference games. The old records were 15 goals and 32 points in 10 games.

Overall, she finished with a school-record 24 goals and 53 points. She broke the old school mark of 19 goals and 46 points. She now has 34 goals and 76 points in her first two seasons for Concordia.

Bain led the MIAC in shots taken, shots per game, goals and points and was second in the league in game-winning goals.

Olesen was the central anchor of the Cobber defense that posted nine shutouts, which was second highest in the MIAC. She scored two goals and finished the season with seven points.

Ravenhorst was a dangerous offensive weapon from the wing. She finished third in the MIAC in assists and 12th in points. She was second on the team in scoring with five goals and eight assists for 18 points.

Fancher was one of the team's starting outside defenders and was usually forced to "mark" the opposing team's best forward. She was part of the defense that held opponents to under 10 total shots per game.

Lombardozzi, the last member of the Cobber postseason quintet, was the team's playmaking, central midfielder. She routinely controlled the center of the field through her ability to quickly play the ball and slow down the opposing team's attack in the middle part of the field. She finished the year with one goal and four assists for six points.
