Cobbers Bake Hamline for a Dozen; Hammer the Pipers 12-1.
Bridgette Richter # 5 (Fr., Long Beach, Cali.) crashes the net after a Cobber shot.

Nine players scored goals for Concordia as the Cobbers baked up an even dozen goals against Hamline. Concordia scored at least three goals in each period and cruised to the 12-1 win.

Leading the goal barrage were Christine Kleven (Sr., Red Lake Falls, Minn.), Annie Knierim (Sr., Glasgow, Mont.), and Jenei Estrada (Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif.). All three players had two goals in the game. Kleven also had two assists to go along with her two goals to finish with a four-point night.  Bridgette Richter (Fr., Long Beach, Calif.) was held scoreless but picked up four assists for the Cobbers. Samantha Gunning was the third Cobber to pick up four points as she had a goal and three assists. The four-point total in a single game is a career high for all three players.

Lindsay Czarnecki (So., Riverside, Calif.) extended her goal-scoring streak to four games, as she scored Concordia's first goal of the game at 3:41 of the first period.

Shyla Wilson (Sr., Cohasset, Minn.) faced 12 shots, allowing a lone goal in the third period when the Cobbers were on the powerplay. Jeanne Schipper-Jobe scored the only goal for Hamline. Concordia outshot the Pipers 51-12 for the game. Hamline split the goaltending duties as first-year netminder Rachael Young played the first 28 minutes and made 23 saves. Alysha Huberty came on in relief and stopped 16 saves in the final 32 minutes.

The two teams complete their weekend series tomorrow at 2:00 at the Moorhead Sports Center.

The Headline:
Cobbers Hoping to Pick a Pair of Puck Pipers
The Teams:
Concordia (2-0-0 in the MIAC, 4-0-0 Overall)
Cobber Notes:
Concordia is coming off a weekend sweep of St. Olaf. The Cobbers used their offensive punch to beat the Oles 5-2 on Friday night, and then relied on the goaltending of sophomore Jamie Savage to earn a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. It was Savage's first collegiate shutout in her second start of the season. She is currently tied with teammate Shyla Wilson for the league lead in winning percentage and is currently third in the MIAC in goals against average (1.93) and save percentage (.943). Her emergence this season gives Concordia two of the better goalies in the league and will provide a seemless transition after this season when all-conference goalie Shyla Wilson is lost due to graduation. Look for the head coach Kerry Norman to continue the trend of rotating goalies during this weekend's series. Wilson is the probable starter for tonight and either Savage or first-year goalie Jenna Johnson will be between the pipes on Saturday...Other players for the Cobbers that are among the leaders in the MIAC include; Katie Jacques is first in goals scored, second in power play goals and third in total points; Lindsay Kurtis is also third in total points and third in goals scored. As a team the Cobbers lead the MIAC in goals scored and is third in the league in goals against...After this weekend's series, the Cobbers will have one more series before Christmas break. Concordia will make the long journey to Winona on December 6th and 7th to take on the Cardinals of St. Mary's.

Hamline (0-2-0 in the MIAC, 1-3-0 Overall)
Piper Notes:
Hamline is fresh off a tough series against St. Mary's. Last weekend the Pipers dropped a 3-0 decision at home on Friday night and then turned around and lost by three (4-1) again on Saturday at St. Mary's...Overall, the Pipers are 1-3 on the year. Their lone win came in their opening game against St. Olaf in a non-conference game. Since then they have lost three straight including the series against St. Mary's. The Pipers' other loss came against Lake Forest (IL) in a 4-3 thriller...Hamline has two defensemen who are currently among the league leaders in scoring by a blueliner. Allison Rime and Nichelle Simon are third in the MIAC in the category with three points. Rime is also sixth in the league in scoring by a first-year player. Goaltender Rachael Young has made 159 saves in Hamline's first 4 games (39 saves/game average). She leads the MIAC in saves made and is seventh in save percentage (.919).

The History: Concordia leads the series 6-0.
In 2001-02, the Cobbers swept the Pipers on the road, winning by scores of 6-2 and 3-2. In the first game, Lindsay Kurtis picked up her third career hat trick, and the only one she would notch during the 01-02 season. In addition to the three goals, she also assisted on two others, putting together a dominating offensive performance. In the second game, the Cobbers held on to win 3-2. Kurtis had another goal and assist, giving her seven points in the series. Katie Jacques also had a goal and an assist.

These scores were dramatically closer than the two previous seasons, when the Cobbers went 4-0 against the Pipers, winning all four games by at least 8 goals, with a combined score of 48-2 over the four games.
