Women's Outdoor Track and Field

- Concordia freshman Hailey Brenden (Rothsay, Minn.) broke the school record in the 10,000 meters at the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Meet this past weekend. Brenden ran a 37:32.03 and smashed the school record of 37.39.64 set by Marion Strand back in 1984. Brenden's time was good for second place in the race and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA National Meet.


Baseball (18-14/10-10 MIAC; beat St. Mary's 6-4 & 7-6)

- Concordia finished the season by winning their final four games. The Cobbers ended the year with an 18-12 overall record. CC went 10-10 in conference play in 2008 marking the 19th time in the past 21 seasons that the Cobbers have had at least a .500 record in the MIAC. It marks the 16th time in the past 18 years that the Cobbers have won at least 16 games on the season and 16th time in the past 19 years they have won at least 18 games in the season.

- Concordia catcher Kyle Johnson (Jr., Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) led the team in hitting in 2008 with a .450 average. He also hit .507 in conference play. Johnson led the team in batting average, slugging percentage (.725), on-base percentage (.496), runs scored (36), hits (49), RBI’s (37), doubles (13), home runs (5) and total bases (79).

- Concordia pitchers Adam Johnson (So., Pelican Rapids, Minn.) and Scott Schumacher (Jr. Thompson, N.D.) tied for the team lead in victories this season. Both pitchers had 5-1 overall records on the year and both were 3-1 in conference play. Johnson led the team with a 2.43 ERA while Schumacher was a close second with a 2.88 ERA. The pair helped the CC pitching staff post a 4.98 team ERA, marking the first time since the 2002 season that Concordia had a team ERA under 5.00.


Fastpitch Softball (10-28/7-15 MIAC; send of season)


- Concordia catcher Amanda Michaelson (Jr. Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) was named to the MIAC All-Conference Team. It was the first time that Michaelson had received conference postseason honors. She led the team in batting average (.323), hits (32) and doubles (8). She was also second in slugging percentage (.465), on-base percentage (.373), RBI's (18) and stolen bases (7). In conference play she hit safely in 17 of the team's 22 games.

- Cobber sophomore pitcher Erin Johnson (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo HS) was named to the MIAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team marking the first time that she has received postseason honors. Johnson appeared in 19 of the 22 conference games and started 18 MIAC contests. She carded a 3.85 ERA in league games and finished the year by winning three of her final four league games. Johnson had an overall ERA of 4.45 and was responsible for nine of the team's 10 wins on the season.


Men's Outdoor Track and Field (finished 5th at MIAC Championship Meet)

- Concordia finished fifth at the MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Meet this past weekend which is the highest team finish since 2001 when they placed fourth. As a team, the Cobbers scored 78.0 points which is the most since the 2001 season as well.

- The Cobbers 4x100-meter relay team broke the school record twice at the conference meet. The quartet of Jason Sather (So., Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong HS), Perry Patterson (So., Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine HS), Jeff Bakke (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Xavier Carroll (So., El Cajon, Calif./Grossmont HS) set a new school mark in the prelims on Friday with a time of 42.79 and then bettered the mark on Saturday by racing to a 42.43 in the finals. Those times broke the old school mark of 42.90 set back in 1998.

- Concordia junior Nick Birchem (Lisbon, N.D.) scored points in three different events at the conference championship meet. He placed seventh in the javelin with a throw of 162-04. Birchem also finished seventh in the discus with a distance of 134-05 and eighth in the shot put with a mark of 46-0.


Women's Outdoor Track and Field (finished 3rd at MIAC Championship Meet)

- Concordia finished third at the recently completed MIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet. It marks the ninth time in the past 12 years that the Cobbers have posted a top three finish at the conference outdoor meet.

- The Cobbers had four different athletes finish in the top six of the javelin competition at the MIAC Championship Meet. Katherine Brott (Fr., Deer Lodge, Mont./Powell County HS) finished third in the javelin with a toss of 125-0. She was followed by Leah Kay (So., Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) who finished fourth with a mark of 114-4. Kristen Warren (Fr., Oakes, N.D.) claimed fifth place with a distance of 112-08 and Sara Sorbo (So., Adams, N.D./Adams-Edmore HS) placed sixth with a throw of 112-04. CC’s total score in the javelin event alone accounted for 18 team points which is more than three schools scored in the entire meet.
