Men's Basketball

- Concordia announced that former longtime University of North Dakota men’s basketball coach Rich Glas will be the new head coach for the Cobber men’s basketball team. Glas, who served as director of basketball operations for NCAA Division I University of Northern Iowa the past two seasons, takes over for Duane Siverson who retired as coach after the 2007-08 season. Glas will be the 10th head coach in Concordia men’s basketball history. Glas was the head coach for the University of North Dakota from 1988 to 2005. He is the all-time winningest coach in the history of Sioux basketball after amassing a 335-194 record in his tenure. He posted eight 20-win seasons at North Dakota and guided the Sioux to eight NCAA Division II tournament appearances. He has been a college head coach for 28 years, compiling a 490-302 record. - Cobber senior Luke Linz (Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) was named to the NABC All-West Region Second Team as well as the D3hoops.com All-West Region Second Team. Linz was the first player in program history to score 1,000 points and collect 500 rebounds.


Women's Basketball (End of Season- 16-10 overall/15-7 MIAC - T4th Place)
- Concordia senior Melanie Hageman (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) capped off the awards season by being named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-American Honorable Mention Team. She is the first Cobber player to earn All-American honors since Mandy Pearson in 2005. She is also the 13th player in program history to earn All-American honors. The award finishes off the awards season for Hageman. She was named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team, the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Team, the WBCA All-Region Team and last week was named to the D3hoops.com All-West Region Second Team for the third consecutive season.


Men's Outdoor Track and Field (Competed at the Walt Disney World Invite)

- Concordia junior Nick Birchem (Lisbon, N.D.) finished second in the javelin at the Walt Disney World Invitational in Orlando, Fla. over the weekend. Birchem’s toss of 176-07 is the best in the MIAC this season.


Women's Outdoor Track and Field (Competed at the Walt Disney World Invite)

- Concordia sophomore Leah Kay (Dassel, Minn./Dassel-Cokato HS) started the outdoor season by provisionally qualifying for the national outdoor meet in the high jump at the Walt Disney World Invitational in Orlando, Fla. over the weekend. Kay posted a height of 5-5.25 which is better than the mark she qualified for the national indoor meet. Kay’s height is the second best in the nation this season.

- Freshman Hailey Brenden (Rothsay, Minn.) continued her outstanding first year for the Cobbers. She ran a 18:39.98 in the 3000 meters and won the event at the Walt Disney World Invite.


Men's Tennis (5-6/0-3; Did not compete)

- The Cobbers will return to action when they play at St. Thomas on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 1 p.m. and then on Sunday, Mar. 30 at St. John's


Women's Tennis (2-6/0-3 MIAC; Did not compete)

- Concordia will play at St. Thomas on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 4 p.m. and then again on Sunday, Mar. 30 against St. Kate's at the University of Minnesota.


Baseball (6-4)

- Concordia junior pitcher Scott Schumacher (Thompson, N.D.) was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week. Schumacher went 2-0 during Concordia's spring trip to Arizona during the past week. For the week, he started two games and pitched 11 innings in recording his two wins. He struck out 10 and only allowed six hits. Opponents hit a mere .158 against the right-hander and he only allowed two extra-base hits, both doubles.

- The Cobbers won their final four games in Arizona to post a 6-4 record on their spring break trip. It is the first time since the 2003 season that Concordia has recorded a winning record on their spring trip.

- Schumacher also led the team in hitting in Arizona. He hit .471 in eight games and collected eight hits and seven RBI’s. He also led the team in on-base percentage with a .545 mark.


Fastpitch Softball (3-11)

- The Cobbers finished their annual spring trip to Florida by winning their final two games. In their last game of the trip, Concordia scored 21 runs and collected 17 hits in posting a 21-2 win over St. Lawrence (N.Y.). CC was 3-7 in Florida and is scheduled to start the northern part of their slate on Sat., Mar. 29 at 1 p.m. at home against Hamline.

- Sophomore Becki Zimmerman (Chokio, Minn./Chokio-Alberta HS) led the Cobbers in hitting in Florida. She hit .417 and had a slugging percentage of .833. Of her 10 hits on the trip, five were for extra bases and three went for triples. She also recorded nine RBI’s and six walks.

- Erin Johnson (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo HS) earned the spot as the team’s No.1 pitcher in Florida. Johnson won three games and finished with an ERA of 2.52. She started in nine of the 10 games and held opponents to a .274 average.
