Gameday Game Recap:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (10/06/07)-- Concordia scored three goals in the first 31 minutes of play against St. Thomas and went on to post a 3-0 victory over the Tommies in St. Paul on Saturday. The win is the sixth straight for the Cobbers and keeps them unbeaten in MIAC play at 5-0-1. CC is currently in second place in the league standings as the teams past the halfway post for the conference race. The win also improves Concordia's overall record to 8-2-1.

The Cobbers put the game away in the first 15 minutes when they scored two goals less than four minutes apart. Rachel Lewis, the reigning MIAC Player of the Week scored the first of her two goals in the game at 10:54. Freshman Sam Johnson picked up the assist on the play. The two would combine for the second goal as Johnson scored her sixth goal of the season with an assist from Lewis.

Lewis then added the third goal; her second of the game, at 30:57 and Concordia was posted to an insurmountable three-goal lead with 59 minutes to play. For Lewis, it was her team-leading seventh goal of the season. She has also scored in five straight conference games. She also scored the game-winning goal for the Cobbers, her third of the season. Lewis now has seven goals and one assist for a team-leading 15 points on the year. The 15 points is two shy of her career-best 17 points, which she totaled last season.

After the Cobbers scored the third goal, St. Thomas changed formations and started to press Concordia using four forwards. CC was able to keep the Tommies from scoring but UST was able to temporarily change the momentum in the game.

Concordia kept St. Thomas off the board until the break and was then able to make adjustments to counter the Tommie tactical change. In the first half, CC outshot St. Thomas 8-6 and both teams got off four corner kicks.

In the second half, the Cobbers were able to counter the Tommies tactics and come away with an 11-1 edge in shots and a 2-0 advantage in shots on goal.

For the game, the Cobbers held a 19-7 margin in overall shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Concordia goalie Britt Reiersgord made all three saves to record her third consecutive shutout and fifth of the season. She now has 24 shutouts for her career. St. Thomas keeper Kaisa Erickson stopped four shots and saw her season record drop to 5-4-0.

Concordia will return home to host perennial league powerhouse Macalester on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4 p.m. at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. The game will feature live stats. They can be accessed through the Cobber athletics website.
