Gameday Game Recap:

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/27/08)-- When you're hot, you're hot and right now Cobber senior forward Justin Foss is red hot. Foss scored both goals in the Concordia's 2-1 win over the University of Mary in Moorhead on Tuesday. Foss now has 15 goals on the season and is only one shy of tying the school record of 16 set by former MIAC Peter Curry back in 1994.

Foss has now scored two goals in four of the team's last six games. He also added to his MIAC lead in goals and points. Foss now has 15 goals and two assists for 32 points. His point total is the fourth highest in program history.

Foss also helped the Cobbers earn their fifth straight win and clinch at least a .500 record for the season. Concordia is now 9-8-0 on the year and have only one more game remaining in the 2008 season. That means for the first time since the 2002 CC will finish with at least a .500 overall record.

Concordia dominated throughout most of the game as they held possession of the ball and were able to create chances on the wings as well as through the middle of the field. However, both Cobber goals would not come from the flow of play but rather on dead ball. Foss nailed both of his goals off of corner kicks. He ran onto both services and was able to beat the goalie by heading the ball into the net.

Concordia needed almost the entire first half to get on the board. The Cobbers were never able to get the ball past Marauder goalie Derek Luptak until the 38th minute. The best chance of the first half hour came from the head of freshman Riley McGlynn who headed a ball on target after a free kick only to see Luptak dive to his right and come up with the save. CC also had several chances from the run of play but their shooting sights were off as they fired the ball either high or wide.

Foss put up his first score on the board at 37:07 when he ran onto a ball delivered by Kyle Quimby and turned it into the goal with his head.

Foss would strike for his second goal less than 15 minutes into the second half. Once again Concordia earned a corner kick and once again Foss was able to beat his defender to the ball and head it into the goal. Foss' goal at 57:21 proved to be the eventual game winner. He now has three of the team's nine game-winning goals on the year.

The University of Mary (4-11-0) would get one of Foss' goals back when they scored on a header of their own in the 71st minute. Cory Hittle was able to flick the ball over the top of CC goalie Mads Schmidt who was coming out to win the ball served in on a free kick. Scott Kugler was credited with the assist on the goal at 70:58.

Neither team would have any more quality chances in the final 19 minutes of play. Each team had the ball bounce around the penalty area but neither squad was able to connect on a goal-scoring chance.

For the game Concordia outshot the Marauders 19-7 in total shots and 6-4 in shots on goal. Foss led all players with five shots in the game.

Schmidt turned aside three shots to earn his ninth win of the year, while Luptak made four saves and earned the loss.

Concordia will finish off the 2008 season when they play at St. John's on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.
