Gameday Game Recap:

WINONA, Minn. (9/27/08)-- That's right. You read the score line correctly. Concordia scored five goals in a conference game and posted its largest margin of victory in an MIAC game since 2001 as they beat St. Mary's 5-0 in Winona on Saturday. The five goals is also the most scored against a league opponent since the 2001 campaign.

The five-goal outburst helps the Cobbers snap a four-game losing skid. It is also their first conference win of the year. CC is now 4-5-0 overall and 1-3 in the MIAC. The Cardinals fall for the third straight time and the sixth time in the past seven games as they drop to 1-7-1 in all games and 0-3-1 in league play.

The win also helps Concordia take the lead in the career series with St. Mary's. The Cobbers are now 10-9 all-time against the Cardinals.

A senior and a freshman did most of the damage for CC in the game. Senior Justin Foss and freshman Riley McGlynn had two goals and an assist each in igniting the suddenly red-hot Concordia offense. McGlynn had the biggest game of any Cobber player. He finished with two goals, an assist, nine shots total and eight shots on goal. The slippery forward proved to be too much for the SMU defense to handle all game long. He started the scoring at the 22:12 mark when he finished off a combination from Marco Riboli and Foss. Riboli would go on to add a two more assists in the game to bring his team-leading total to seven on the year.

Concordia added a pair of bookend goals around the halftime break to crack the game wide open. Alex Dahl scored his first collegiate goal five minutes before the intermission and then Foss picked up his first of two goals less than one minute after halftime.

Leading 3-0 early in the second half, the Cobbers continued to pepper the SMU backline. Concordia combined for 14 shots in each half and finished the 90 minutes with a 28-10 margin in shots.

McGlynn and Foss finished off the scoring. McGlynn earned his second nugget of the game at 51:19 and then Foss put an exclamation mark on the win when he scored at 71:33 to push the final tally to 5-0.

Cobber keeper Mads Schmidt made seven saves to earn his second shutout of the year. The Cardinals employed a pair of goalies. Jon Szafranski played the first 67:35 and made 11 saves while Chris Williams came on in relief and stopped six shots in the final 22:25.

Concordia will put their one-game winning streak on the line when they play at St. Olaf on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m.
